The Arunachal Pradesh government has made a detailed presentation of state finances, including "several challenges" and requirements before the 15th Finance Commission, officials said today.
A team of the Finance Commission arrived here yesterday and had a meeting with state government officials, they said.
The Arunachal Pradesh government's presentation contained the state finances, besides the requirements for urban local bodies, vulnerability to natural disasters and suggestions for sharing Central taxes, Shaktikanta Das, Acting Chairman of the Finance Commission, said.
"The state has several challenges besides opportunities to invest in hydro-power, tourism, food processing and agri-horti sectors. There are border-related challenges and insurgency problem in most of the border areas of the state.
"We have open mind on all issues projected by the state at this point of time. We will examine all the suggestions and projections and accordingly recommend to the President," Das said.
He said the Arunachal Pradesh government had suggested giving weightage on population, infrastructure gap and border area development as criteria for devolution of Central taxes.
Das said the Commission, after holding consultations with the 29 states, would submit its recommendations to President Ram Nath Kovind by October 31, 2019.
The recommendations will come into effect for five years starting from April 1, 2020.
After Arunachal Pradesh, the Commission is scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir and then Kerala, Das added.
