Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) today caught red-handed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) posted at Hilsa police station in Nalanda district of Bihar allegedly while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,500 to arrest persons accused in a criminal case.
Vigilance officials said one Ram Babu Prasad of Yogipur village under Hilsa police station had complained at VIB that ASI Uma Shankar Dubey was demanding Rs 5,000 as bribe to arrest the accused in an FIR, which he had lodged.
"The complaint was found to be true upon verification and Prasad handed over Rs 500 as advance to the ASI. Accordingly a trap team was constituted under the leadership of DSP Mohammad Jamiruddin and dispatched to Hilsa to nab him," said vigilance officials.
