The Birsa Agriculture University today conferred the degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) upon eminent scientist M S Swaminathan.
"Today at its fifth convocation, the Birsa Agriculture University, in recognition of his monumental contributions in the field of World Agriculture that continue to inspire all, is greatly honoured in conferring the Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) upon the Father of Green Revolution and living legend Dr M S Swaminathan," BAU Vice-Chancellor George John read out in absentia.
Former President A P J Abdul Kalam, Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu, Chief Minister Raghubar Das and Agriculture Minister Randhir Kumar Singh were present on the occasion.
Previously, Dr Swaminathan has been conferred degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) from 70 universities, including 21 foreign varsities, George said.
