In an official press release, Bedi said "We have gone by the recommendations of high-powered Police Reforms Committee set up under the direction of the Prime Minister."

The committee had held consultations with all stakeholders across the country and the current policy is on the recommendations approved by the Home Ministry

Any relaxation would be violative of the policy of the Ministry, she said.

The maximum age limit was fixed at 22 years, but there was a demand to set the age at 24.

Narayanasamy said he would talk to the officials to extend the last date beyond September 22 for submission of applications by candidates.
