The West Bengal government today declared July 7 as a public holiday under the Negotiable Instrument Act in addition to July 6 already declared as a holiday on the occasion of the Id-Ul-Fitre festival.

Quoting a notification, a release issued by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department said that the state government had earlier declared July 6 (Wednesday) to be a holiday on the occasion of Id-Ul-Fitre.

"But it is now gathered that the Id-Ul-Fitre festival may fall on July 7 (Thursday)," it said.

"So in view of the uncertainty associated with the date of celebration of the festival, the Governor is pleased to declare July 7 (Thursday) also to be public holiday under the Negotiable Instrument Act," the release added.
