BJP today termed as "unprecedented" the Supreme Court's decision to appoint a new Lokayukta in Uttar Pradesh even as Congress alleged that the Akhilesh Yadav government failed to fulfil its constitutional duties.
"The appointment of Lokayukta by the Supreme Court is unprecedented. Due to activities of Leader of the House and Leader of the Opposition, the Legislature has been insulted and a constitutional crisis has arisen," BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai said in a statement.
Bajpai said that despite repeated directives of the apex court and the High Court to appoint a new ombudsman, the Chief Minister amended the Lokayukta Act to which the Leader of the Opposition remained a "mute spectator".
