12 traffic policemen, including sub inspectors and head constables, were given 'body worn cameras' (GPRS enabled cameras) at Hapur Chungi round today, a senior traffic official said.

Senior Superintendent of Police, K S Emmanuel affixed the cameras on their dresses today, Traffic inspector Anil Yadav said.

The traffic police will wear the cameras during duty hours and in case of any altercation with vehicle owner or driver, it would record the incident so that the errant party, whosoever he may be, cannot concoct any false story before the officer during probe.

Highlighting the benefits of the camera, SSP Emmanuel said the high resolution footage would be recorded in and stored in 32 GB memory card. The feeds could be seen at any computer.

"This would facilitate publicly desirable behavior and will enhance harmony in between police and civilians. We are expecting more cameras to come as per the requirement, the SSP added.
