Boy's death sparks protest

An 11-year-old boy was killed when a speeding truck hit his bicycle in Barkheda area here today, sparking protests by enraged locals who blocked road traffic and damaged vehicles.

Shivshankar was returning from school when the accident happened on Shahjananpur-Pilibhit road in Madhavpur village, police said.

Furious over the killing of the boy, villagers blocked road traffic for over three hours and damaged some vehicles, they said.

The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the truck driver, police said.
