Bru community members take shelter in North Tripura

Fleeing from their house, 219 members of 48 families of Bru community from neighbouring Mizoram have taken shelter in two villages at Jampui hill range in North Tripura district, a top official of the district said.

District Magistrate Prashant Kumar Goel said they came on Monday and today following some conflicts in the neighbouring Mamit district, officials were convincing them to return home with the assurance of full safety and security by the Mizoram government.

General Secretary of Mizo Bru Displaced People's Forum (MBDPF), Bruno Mesha said, the Bru people from neighbouring Mizoram had entered into Tripura following a fear psychosis that they might be attacked by the Mizos.
 

Goel said the DM of Mamit district of Mizoram was likely to come tomorrow to take back the Bru people by giving full safety and security. More than 33000 displaced BRU people are new sheltered in six evacuee camps in North Tripura district since 1997. They took shelter in the camps following ethnic clash with the local Mizos.
