The BSF today said it will manage with less land to set up border outposts and battalion headquarters in West Bengal in view of unavailability of land.
"For battalion headquarters you need 85 acres and for border outposts you need five acres as per standard procedures. Land acquisition has been a issue for setting up infrastructure," said B D Sharma, ADG, BSF.
He said that a few days ago the BSF had a meeting with the chief secretary and home secretary who conveyed that such huge tracts of land were unavailable.

Sharma said that BSF understood the problem and agreed to manage with less land.
"We understand the problem and we have agreed to it. We have said that instead of 85 acre, if we get 30 acre for battalion headquarters and two acre for border outposts then we can manage. So they said that they will look into it," Sharma said.
He said that the BSF would construct three-storied vertical barracks which would require less land.
