Capsized Bangladeshi trawler found, 26 still missing

Twenty-six people are still missing after a fishing boat carrying them capsized last week in Bay of Bengal, officials said today.

The trawler 'FV Bandhan' which sank off the coast on Friday near St Martin's Island in the northeastern part of Bay of Bengal was found today, bdnews24 reported.

The boat had sunk off after it was hit by a Singapore-bound merchant vessel 'Basundhara-8'.

Of the 29 fishermen and crew on board, two were rescued while body of another was fished out from the sea several hours after the incident, it said.

However, as many as 26 others are still missing.
 

Bangladesh Navy's rescue teams found the vessel this morning nearly 30 nautical miles off the island, Department of Shipping official Md Shafiqul Islam said.

There are no signs of the missing crew until yesterday evening, he said, adding, rescue operation is on to trace them.
