Two persons were arrested for allegedly trying to bribe a Customs officer, Central Bureau of Investigation officials said today.

"A tempo carrying smuggled goods, including mobile accessories, valued at Rs 4 crore was intercepted by a Customs official near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in south Mumbai," a CBI official said.

Following the incident, Rajendra Singh Rajpurohit, director of a firm called Avista Multi Trade Pvt, along with his brother Manav Jagarwal, came forward to claim the goods, the official said.

"Later a custom broker, Himanshu Ajmera, came to meet the Customs official claiming to be a representative of Avista Multi Trade and allegedly offered him a bribe," he said.

A case was then registered on the complaint of Assistant Commissioner, Customs (Marine and Preventive), Mumbai who stated that private individuals were offering him a bribe, the official said.

A trap was laid and Ajmera and Jagarwal were nabbed while attempting to bribe the official, he said.

The arrested accused were produced before a special CBI court which remanded them in CBI custody for two days, he informed.
