CBI sentences father-son to one year RI

A CBI court has sentenced a senior official and his son working at the Tuberculosis Research Centre, functioning under the Indian Council of Medical Research, here to rigorous imprisonment for one year.

V Adhikesavan, Administrative officer of Tuberculosis Research Centre, ICMR, Chennai, abusing his position entered into criminal conspiracy accepted his son Vijay Anand as a Temporary Supervisor though the latter does not have the required qualification for the post, CBI said in a release.

Adhikesavan had handed over the question paper and answers to his son Vijay Anand enabling him to score good marks to get the appointment, it said.
 

Soon after Vijay Anand secured his temporary post, Adhikesavan by using his official position, issued a circular by a clause, violating the ICMR Recruitment rules, that a "desirable experience" was enough to get appointed as Technician, cheating Tuberculosis Research Centre.

CBI, Anti-Corruption Branch, Chennai filed a chargesheet against the two accused under various sections including provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act,1988.

After the completion of trial, Additional Special Judge for CBI Cases, S Malathi sentenced the father-son duo to one year rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively, the release added.
