Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy today accused the BJP-led government at the Centre of meting out "step-motherly" treatment to non-BJP ruled states.

The Centre was not sanctioning adequate funds for the Union Territory's development, he alleged.

"Without giving proper funds for development works, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving 'halwa' to Puducherry (a recent incident where BJP workers there distributed halwa (a sweet) to counter the sales of Pakoda by Congress workers)."

When asked about the unveiling of former chief minister Jayalalithaa's portrait in the Tamil Nadu assembly, Narayanasamy told reporters at the airport here "the party's stand is my stand also."

Congress had boycotted the event.
