Chana prices gained 1.01 per cent to Rs 3313 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions, driven by strong demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, chana for delivery in May moved up by Rs 33, or 1.01 per cent to Rs 3313 per quintal with an open interest of 34,330 lots.

Similarly, the commodity for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 27, or 0.83 per cent to Rs 3277 per quintal in 94,370 lots.

Market analysts said besides strong demand in the spot market and reports of damage to crop due to recent rains in growing regions, particularly Madhya Pradesh, mainly led an upsurge in chana prices at futures trade.
