Charas, ganja worth Rs 1.73 crore seized in Motihari

Customs officials have seized 14 kg of charas and 25 kg of ganja from a truck in Bihar's East Champaran district.

Deputy Commissioner of Customs in Motihari Pawan Kumar said acting on a tip off, a special team constituted under Customs Superintendent Shailendra Kumar raided and searched the truck yesterday near Mohammadpur on NH 28 under Pipra Kothi police station area of the district.

The truck was on its way to Pipra Kothi from Gopalganj, he said.

The team seized 29 packets of charas weighing 14 kg and 25 kg ganja (marijuana), hidden in the cabin of the truck, the Deputy Commissioner of Customs said adding, the truck has been seized but the driver has fled.
 

The value of seized charas is estimated to be around Rs 1.40 crore and ganja is of around Rs 25 lakh, the Customs official said.
