Chhattisgarh to provide 2 lakh drinking water connections

Chhattisgarh government has set a target to provide domestic water connections to around 2 lakh households in a year under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), it was officially announced here today.

"Around 1.7 lakh tap connections were provided in the state under the NRDWP while a target to provide domestic water connection to two lakh households in an year has been set," a government official said.

As per Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh's directives, officials have been working on a comprehensive plan to provide drinking water on a large scale, he said.

The state government has made a provision of Rs 862 crore in its budget for the 2015-16 fiscal to provide clean drinking water in Chhattisgarh which is 14 per cent higher than the previous year's allocation, he said.
 

With summer heat on the rise, district collectors and public health engineering officials have been asked to look after public drinking water facilities in all districts, the official said.

Moreover, they have been directed to purify water in overhead tanks as well as maintain hand pumps, the official said.
