Nirmal and Sonarani Saha, the child's grandparents, said the family was desperate to find a competent advocate to fight for them but cannot afford the fees.
"My son Debashsis called me up last night ... He said if the Indian government could be requested to engage a competent advocate in the US, the child can be brought back home," Nirmal Saha told PTI here.
Senior West Bengal Congress leader Om Prakash Mishra visited them last night and assured them of all help from the party.
The matter had already been communicated to the Congress High Command which would take it up with the Centre, he said.
