China today offered USD 1.62 million as humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, where at least 280 people have died and hundreds are missing in a massive landslide.
The Ministry of Commerce said in a statement that China is providing emergency aid worth 10 million yuan for Afghanistan's reconstruction efforts to help the government weather the major disaster, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
More than 280 people were killed in the landslide which hit the northeast Badakhshan province on May 2.
Chinese President Xi Jinping had sent a message of sympathy to Afghan President Hamid Karzai, expressing condolences and sympathy for those affected by the disaster.
