Condenming the police action on the students and women of the Jadavpur university, the wife of Kolkata Police commissioner Surajit Kar Purakayastha, Sharmistha, today joined BJP and vowed to fight for the rights of the women in the state.
Flanked by BJP state president Rahul Sinha in the party headquaters, Sharmistha said, "I feel BJP is the only place where I can fight for the women's rights in the state."
She said in the present situation the women's rights were under threat.
