Mercury plunged by a few notches in north India bringing winter chill back to the region with fog and mist enveloping most parts even as some areas witnessed a sunny day today.
Delhiites basked in bright sunshine throughout the day as the maximum temperature was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 9.5 degrees Celsius, slightly down from yesterday's 10.1 degree Celsius.
Kargil town in Jammu and Kashmir recorded season's coldest night with the mercury settling at a low of minus 20 degrees Celsius even as most parts of the Valley witnessed a dip in night temperature.
Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, recorded a low of 0.3 degree Celsius, down by more than half a degree from yesterday's 0.9 degrees Celsius. The mercury plunged to several notches in other parts of the state.
Cold conditions renewed in parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh with the minimum temperature dropping by up to two degrees Celsius even as fog and mist continued to prevail in the region.
The weather was mainly dry and moderate to dense fog occurred at a few places in Uttar Pradesh, with temperatures falling marginally.
Intense cold wave condition persisted in tribal areas and higher hills of Himachal Pradesh as icy winds swept the region even as sky remained mainly clear.
Meanwhile, day temperatures increased by a few degrees in Rajasthan. Jodhpur recorded maximum of 28.2 degree Celsius while sole hill station of Mount Abu recorded a minimum of 2.4 degree C.
