In a surprise development, furniture, including computer sets of the district collector's office here were seized and attached by officials of the judiciary after a court order on Monday.
The district administration had acquired farm lands for the Dindora Irrigation Project, in Bhadrawati tehsil of the district, way back in 1999.
Around 25 acres of farm land from six farmers from Paoni village was acquired for the Dindora Irrigation Project, but the amount of compensation paid by the administration was a meagre Rs 22,000 per acre.
The farmers were not satisfied with the amount of compensation and one Pradeep Ramarao Tajne knocked the doors of district civil court at Warora challenging the compensation amount and demanding an additional amount, as per prevailing rates in 1999.
After 17 years of litigation, the court delivered its judgement and passed an order directing the irrigation department to pay an amount Rs 2,83,57,794 to Tajne.
However, after the irrigation department failed to comply with the order, the court took notice of the same and issued an order to attach the property from the district collector's office on April 22, 2014.
After this development, a bailiff armed with court orders reached the district collector's office in the afternoon and seized around 23 items that include computer sets, furniture and other sundry items, collectively worth Rs 1,60,300, it was stated. The process of attaching these items was completed by 5 pm on Monday.
Meanwhile, while ratifying the incident, District Collector Deepak Mhaisekar informed that the attachment by the court was executed by a bailiff as per the court order due to non-payment of dues to the farmer. He also said that the irrigation department had failed to get stay order on the lower court despite appealing to the High Court.
The issue would be discussed with higher-ups to sort out the issue at the earliest, he said.
