Maharashtra PWD minister Chandrakant Patil today ordered for a time-bound programme to complete the construction of 184 health facilities across the state.

The instructions were issued this evening after Patil held a meeting with Public Health Minister Deepak Sawant about the ongoing construction activity of these facilities.

It includes, construction of 51 new rural hospitals, construction of new 14 sub-district, upgradation of 59 sub-district and rural hospitals, setting up 42 trauma-care centers and 15 women and child hospitals -- all will be run by the government itself.

Patil said, "Every hospital building is at different stage of completion. The officers should come up with time-bound programme to complete it. It will save time and money of the state and facilities will be open for people's service."

The figure of total expenditure was however not available but it is being partially funded by the Centre under the National Health Mission.

According to the economic survey of Maharashtra for the year 2016-17, there are 1,402 hospitals run by government, civic bodies or trusts. There are 3,087 dispensaries, while 1,811 primary health centers.
