A conclave of chief ministers and parliamentarians of 12 Himalayan states will be held in Shimla on October 5, an official said on Friday.
The theme of the meet, to be held at Shoolini University in Solan, is "wellbeing of the next generation of Himalayan people through agriculture", said Kunal Satyarthi, Member Secretary of HP Council for Science, Technology and Environment.
The Himachal Pradesh government is organising the conclave in partnership with Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI), a civil society organisation of 12 Himalayan states -- Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam and West Bengal.
The meet will be held in two stages -- a summit of professional experts and delegates on October 3 and 4, and a conclave of chief ministers and parliamentarians on October 5.
The meet will also discuss the issues of hydro power and sustainable tourism in the hilly states, he added.
This will be the second such conclave in Shimla, he said.
In October 2009, the state government had organised a 'Himalayan Chief Ministers Conclave' on the theme of 'Indian Himalayas: Glaciers, Climate Change and Livelihoods'.
