Congress here today protested against the Land Acquisition Bill brought by the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre.

Led by AICC general secretary and in-charge of party affairs in Haryana Shakeel Ahmed, HPCC President Ashok Tanwar, Haryana Congress Legislature party Chief Kiran Chaudhary as well as former Haryana minister Captain Ajay Singh Yadav and party activists held a demonstration at the district secretariat here today.

They, later, handed over a memorandum, addressed to the President of India and the Haryana Governor, to the deputy commissioner Yash Grag seeking withdrawal of the controversial Bill.

Prior to demonstration, a protest rally was held in the local Nehru Park that was prominently addressed by Shakeel Ahmed.

Stating that the agitation against the bill today started from Rewari would soon permeate the state, Ahmed asserted that the bill was anti-farmer.

Targeting the Manohar Lal Khattar government of Haryana, Ahmed alleged that the BJP government in Haryana had not only proved itself as anti-farmer, but had failed on almost all fronts as well.

Similarly deploring that Yadav, who had registered his indignation against his own government in the matter of acquisition of farmers' land, had been defeated at the hustings by the electorate of Rewari during the recent Assembly polls, much to the dislike of the congress chief Sonia Gandhi as well as the party vice president Rahul Gandhi.

He also announced that party activists would gherao the Haryana Assembly on March 9.

The rally was also addressed by Yadav, Ashok Tanwar and Kiran Chaudhary.
