Convict serving life term escapes from police custody

Hoodwinking three policemen, a prisoner of Ambala Central jail serving life sentence today escaped from a hospital where he had been admitted for treatment.

Three police constables, whose were deployed to keep a watch on the convict at the hospital, have been booked for alleged negligence on duty.

The inmate, Dushyant Kumar, who was admitted to Ambala City hospital after illness, fled from there, police said.

Kumar, who belongs to Haryana's Jind district, was sentenced to life term in a criminal case by a Gurgaon court a few years back.

According to police, after complaint of illness Kumar was referred to the civil hospital by the jail doctor yesterday.
 

He was kept in prisoner's ward in the hospital with three security personnel deployed outside the ward.

Kumar went to washroom after getting permission from the policemen. However, after about 15 minutes, when he did not come out, the police constables opened the door of the toilet and found the inmate missing.

They found that Kumar had escaped from the toilet after breaking the window.
