A group of 25 people gathered in

front of a company on GB Road in Thane were booked for violating prohibitory orders imposed in view of the novel coronavirus outbreak, police said on Friday.

The group, which included women, picked up an argument with police and some of them also yelled at personnel videoing them, an official said.

"They were smoking, standing around and chatting in the early hours of Friday despite prohibitory orders issued by the collector against such crowding, as well as smoking in public, in view of the coronavirus outbreak," said Senior Inspector Kishore Khairnar of Kasarwadavali.

"They have been booked under IPC and Maharashtra Police Act for defying officials orders. No one has been arrested in the case," he added.
