A bike borne couple was crushed to death by a speeding truck on NH-80 in Kahalgaon police station area of Bhagalpur district, police said today.
The incident occurred near Pakartalla village on NH 80 late last night when the two were going to a relative's place at Kahalgaon, Additional Superintendent of Police Dilnawaz Ahmad said.
The truck hit the bike head on and dragged it a few metres before veering off to a field, the ASP said adding that the truck driver fled after the accident.
The victims were identified as Pankaj Singh (43) and Sujata Singh (35), residents of Salampur village in Banka district.
Local people blocked the NH-80 for two hours in protest against the accident.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
