In an unusual judgement, a court in nearby Mettupalayam has ordered three students, arrested in an assault cause, to recite 100 verses of Thirukkural treatise authored by Saint Poet Thiruvalluvar daily for 10 days as a condition for granting bail.

The college students were arrested on charges of assaulting a person yesterday and produced before a Judicial Magistrate in Mettupalayam, police said.

The magistrate Sureshkumar ordered the students to appear before the Tamil teacher in the Government Boys High School in Mettupalayam and recite 10 verses of Thirukkural daily for 10 days.

At the end of the tenth day, the head of the school should issue a certificate to the students and it would be produced before the court, the magistrate directed.
