A B Bardhan, former secretary general of CPI, was admitted in a private nursing home here following an increase in his blood pressure.
His condition was stated to be stable.
"Comrade Bardhan, who was here to attend the party's national executive, suddenly took ill and was exhausted due to the hectic schedule," said Mohan Sharma, his close associate.
The ninety-year-old veteran CPI leader is scheduled to be felicitated in the city on January 18 for his contribution to the society.
