Customs arrest six persons for trying to smuggle gold bars

Six persons were arrested at the Airport for allegedly trying to smuggle gold bars worth over Rs 1.7 crore, a Customs official said here today.

Thirty six gold bars were seized from their possession in separate seizures today as these air passengers were bound to and Kolkata, Custom Deputy Commissioner Prakash Borgohain said.

He said the value of the seized gold bars weighing 5.97 kg is estimated to be worth Rs 1.79 crore and interestingly, all of these bars were found inside the rectum of the arrested persons.
