D S Mishra takes charge as Union urban development secretary

Durga Shanker Mishra, an IAS officer of the 1984 batch from Uttar Pradesh, today took over as the Union urban development secretary in place of Rajiv Gauba, who moved to the Ministry of Home Affairs as an officer on special duty.

Mishra had been serving as the additional secretary in the urban development ministry since July 2014.

He has also served as vice-chairman of the Kanpur Development Authority and municipal commissioner of Kanpur.

Besides being Collector of Agra district during 1996-98, he had held various assignments in Union and state governments concerning revenue administration, internal security, civil aviation, tourism, sports, agriculture, taxation, medical and health and mining.
 

Mishra holds B.Tech degree in Engineering from IIT-Kanpur and MBA (International Business) from University of Western Sydney, Australia.

He also holds PG Diploma in Public Policy from Institute of Social Studies, The Hague.

Mishra had also been visiting faculty at the University of Guelph, Canada.
