A decomposed mutilated body of a man, who appears to be in his 20s, was recovered today from a shanty in a slum colony on Ghodbunder Road near here, police said.

According to police, the body bore many injury marks and private parts of the victim were found severed.

Police were informed about the matter by residents of Santosh Nagar Colony following a foul smell emanating from the hut of the deceased, identified as Kabir Lashkar, an official said.

Laskhar, a cycle repairing mechanic, had moved into the colony only last week.

The official said a woman had accompanied Lashkar earlier, who he introduced as his wife.

Prima facie, police suspect it to be a case of a love affair gone sour, the official said.

A case of murder has been registered against an unidentified woman, said Thane Police PRO Sukhda Narkar.

Police have recovered a brick, a knife and a cotton cloth from the scene of the crime.

It seems Lashkar was hit with a brick on his head, strangled and his genital was chopped off, Narkar said, adding that further investigation is underway.
