Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit condoled the death of the students.

"Government would release an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of diseased students," Dikshit said.

She had gone to the Palam Technical Area to receive the bodies of the youths along with Defence Minister A K Antony and Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandy.

The students were part of the National Trekking Camp of National Cadets Corps (NCC) at Malayatoor, about 52 km from Kochi when tragedy struck them yesterday.

While two boys first slipped into the waters of Periyar river as they were clicking photos of the picturesque spot, the three others jumped to help them.
