Delhi police commando discharged after treatment

: A Delhi Police Commando who was seriously injured after some abandoned ammunition exploded when he stepped on it during a practice session at a national Commando Competition here last week, has been discharged from the hospital, police said.

"He has been discharged after completion of surgery and medical treatment. He may have to continue treatment at his place for some more time," a Kancheepuram District Police official said requesting anonymity.

The injured commando Sandeep (23) sustained leg injuries on January 23 while participating in a practice session of the All India Police Commando Competition. He was later admitted to a private hospital.
 

Two others, also belonging to the Delhi unit, Amit Malik (23) and Mahender Singh (25), who were a little distance away, received minor injuries.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had later announced a financial assistance of Rs five lakh for him.

The Three Delhi Police commandos were among 20 teams from various State police and paramilitary forces, which participated in the competition.
