Devotees takes holy dip in Thula Ghat

Thousands of devotees today took a holy dip at the 'Thula Ghat' of river at Mayiladuthurai in this district in connection with the "Maha Pushkaram" festival.

The 12-day festival concludes on September 24.

Head of Kanchi Mutt Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi and the head of Dharmapuram Adheenam Sri Shanmugadesiga Gananasambanda Paramacharya Swamigal presided over the flag hoisting ceremony.

Earlier, special poojas were held for the statue of Goddess near the Thula Ghat.

Princess Irene of Greece and also took part in the poojas at the 'Thula Ghat'.

Clad in a red saree with vermilion on forehead, the 75-year old Princess took part in all the rituals.

Hundreds of ascetics from various parts of the country, who have arrived at Mayiladuthurai, also took a holy dip and offered blessings to the devotees.
