Dikhshit digs her heels in on transfer of officials

"It may be a non-issue for the Home Minister but for us it is a big issue," Dikshit said when her reaction was sought on Chidambaram's comment on the issue.
In a press conference yesterday, Chidambaram dismissed suggestion that there was a political battle going on with the Chief Ministers of Delhi and Goa and said "these are normal administrative hiccups and with a glass of water, hiccups will come to an end."
The Delhi government has already conveyed to the Home Ministry its strong opposition to transfer of 25 DANICS (Delhi, Andaman Nicobar Island Civil Services) officials out of the city administration, notwithstanding Dikshit's demand for consultation with the city administration before effecting such transfers.
Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has also strongly protested against "unilaterally" appointing IPS officers by the Home Ministry in the state.
Dikshit said there is a severe shortage of officials in Delhi Government against the sanctioned strength and transfer of the huge number of officials will seriously affect governance.
"We have given the full picture to the Home Ministry. The city has 1.68 crore population. But we do not have adequate number of officials. We have requested to evolve a system so that transfer of officials is not done unilaterally," said Dikshit. MORE
