Seeking to ensure incidents-free new year celebrations, Chennai police today issued a series of directives to hotels, clubs and general public, warning that eve-teasing and over-speeding in vehicles will be "severely dealt with."

City Police Commissioner S George asked all hotels and clubs, where new year parties and bash are scheduled, to strictly adhere to guidelines including closing down liquor and food service by 2 am.

"Persons in a drunken state or behaving in an unruly manner shall be removed by the management. Adequate staff should be earmarked to prevent eve-teasing inside the function place," he said in a statement while listing regulations for the new year parties on December 31.

Asking hotel and club managements to maintain proper register of vehicles, he also asked them not to allow "persons found to be drunk" to drive their vehicle.

He listed instructions for the general public also, saying they should not throw coloured powders/water on others during the new year celebrations and that "any form of eve-teasing will be severely dealt with."

"Drunken driving will be severely dealt with and the drivers subjected to stringent legal action," while vehicles would be confiscated, he said.
