Junior doctors of Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) launched an indefinite strike since last night demanding security for them after they were attacked by relatives of a patient, paralysing health services in the hospital.
However, they called it off after some hours today following assurance by DMCH authorities that security measures would be strengthened in the campus.
"We had gone on indefinite strike since last night in protest against attack on our colleagues by relatives of a patient," DMCH Junior Doctors Association president Dr Kunal said.
"The strike was called off following an assurance by the hospital authorities that adequate security measures will be put in place in the campus for security of junior doctors and other staff," he said.
DMCH Superintendent Shankar Jha said though there were adequate number of policemen deployed in the campus, he would take it up with the district administration for additional security measures for the doctors.
The relatives of a patient, Triloki Prasad Singh, had clashed with junior doctors late last night alleging negligence in his treatment after he was brought in serious condition from Saharsa and admitted to the ICU at DMCH.
The junior doctors went on strike immediately after they were attacked.
