At least a dozen houses were gutted when two rival groups exploded bombs at a village in Kodala area of Odisha's Ganjam district today, sparking off tension in the area.

No one was, however, injured in the incident at Bilipada village where two rival groups clashed and hurled bombs at each other over some old dispute, SP (Ganjam) Ashish Kumar Singh said.

"Though tension prevailed in the village, the situation is now under control," he said, adding, police personnel in strength were deployed at the village to prevent any fresh untoward incident.

Old enmity between two groups in the village was the cause of the violence, police said.

Incidentally, two years ago, the village had witnessed violence over the alleged witchcraft practice by an old man.
