Eight-year-old poisoned to death, mother critical

A woman today allegedly attempted to commit suicide after poisoning her eight-year-old daughter to death in their house in Avanashi in nearby Tirupur district.

Twenty-three-year-old Yamuna, whose husband Bhupathi is working in Malaysia, administered poison to her daughter Jothika and consumed poison this morning, police said.

On hearing the screams, neighbours rushed to the house and found Jothika lying on the floor and Yamuna struggling for life.

They immediately took the duo to a private hospital, where Jothika was declared dead and the woman, in serious condition, is being treated, they said.

On information, police rushed to the spot. Investigations are on.
