Elephant dies after falling into trench

A wild elephant was found dead in a trench in the Anamalai range at Valparai in the district on Thursday, forest department officials said.

The forest department suspects that the 25-year-old pachyderm could have fallen into the trench and died as it could not come out.

The carcass will be buried after post-mortem, the officials said.
