FICCI North East Advisory Council Chairman Ranjit Barthakur today described demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 currency notes as a "very bold move" by the Prime Minister and complimented the Centre for its measures to deal with black money.

Commenting on the government's decision, Barthakur said, "This is a very bold move by the Prime Minister and will have a positive impact on the economy while delivering a body blow to terror financing and the parallel economy.

"FICCI completely supports this move and compliments the government for its continuous measures to deal with the issue of black money in the country", Barthakur said in a release here.

"While there could be some inconvenience for the people in the short term, we are sure that the government and RBI will take adequate measures to ensure a smooth transition," he said.

He urged all sections of the society to support the government's initiative and help the country's economy gain strength by addressing the menace of black money.
