An Indo-Argentinian co-production film on Tagore's relationship with Argentinian writer Victoria Ocampo will recreate the bygone era with 35 mm Kodak rolls which have now become obsolete.
"It was important to shoot this film in 35 mm rolls and not digitally to get that vintage effect. Half of the film is in black and white," Suraj Kumar, who is producing "Thinking of Him" told PTI here.
He said such rolls are not found in the market anymore but have to be ordered from Kodak.
For the shooting of the film in Tagore's abode at Santiniketan, the team bought two such rolls from Argentina.
"One of it is now probably lost already because the airport security in Delhi couldn't understand what it contains and therefore they opened one of them. Upon exposure to white light the rolls get wasted," Kumar said.
Director Pablo Caesar said they are doing every bit to recreate the past.
"Thinking of Him" which stars Victor Banerjee and Raima Sen in key roles will be shot in Santiniketan, Kolkata and Argentina.
"It is a big challenge to play Tagore but also a big honour," said Banerjee.
The Argentina government is taking an interest in this prestigious project and has invested officially in the biopic which will be made in three languages - English, Spanish, and Bengali.
The film also features Argentine actors Hector Bordoni and Eleonora Wexner.
According to the filmmaker Tagore and Victoria met only twice but she left an everlasting impression on his life.
"Tagore's collection of poetry named Purabi is dedicated to her. He used to call Victoria as Bijoya and in his poems also he used the name Bijoya for Victoria," Caesar said.
They met for the first time in 1924 when Tagore was travelling to Peru from Europe but had to stay in Buenos Aires for two months due to health issues and Victoria took care of him.
"It seems that Victoria was the one who inspired Tagore to start painting. Although they met twice yet the impression they left on each other was everlasting," he said.
