A fire today broke out in the LIC building at the busy Mall Road here, fire department officials said.

The blaze occurred in the third floor of the building but no injuries to anyone have been reported so far.

A call was received of a fire in the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) building at around 9:45 AM, following which six fire tenders were pressed into service. After two hours of firefighting, the flames were brought under control, an official at the Latouche Road Fire Station said.

The fire spread quickly to the whole floor that houses offices of several banks, apart from the LIC office, he said.

No one was injured in the fire as most of the offices had not opened yet, however, he added, several air-conditioners, computer appliances, furniture and office files were gutted in the incident.

One firefighter suffered a minor hand injury in the process, he said, adding prima facie investigations suggest short circuit might have caused the fire.
