Firing between police and ULFA militants in Majuli island

The incident took place when, acting on a tip off, a team raided a hideout of the outfit at Kakh Chapori area of upper Majuli around 4 am this morning, police said.

The militants resorted to firing from nearby woods when the police team reached the spot after which they also returned fire.

The encounter continued for a few minutes before the militants fled and there was no casualty, police added.

Three walkie talkies, mobile sets, some batteries and two bags containing items of personal use were recovered from the site.

Search operations are being continued in the area to nab the militants.
