Five persons were killed and 35 others were seriously injured when a van carrying a marriage party overturned in Rampachodavaram division of East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh this evening, police said.
The victims belonged to a tribal community. They were returning from Rampachodavaram after attending a marriage in the morning, said additional superintendent of police K Fairappa.
Driver of the van lost control while negotiating a turn at Surampalem village of Gangavaram mandal, he said.
The injured persons were shifted to Rampachodavaram government hospital, while driver and cleaner of the van fled from the spot and police were looking for them.
