Five get life term for murdering man over land dispute

A local court today awarded life imprisonment to five persons for murdering a 55-year-old man in connection with a land dispute in 2008.
Additional Sessions Court judge R K Gupta also imposed a fine of Rs 11,000 on each of the convicts and ordered payment of Rs 30,000 from the total amount to the family members of the victim Gabbu Singh.
According to the prosecution, the victim's nephew Ramgopal owned 14 bigha land in Badonia Khana village in the district, part of which was encroached upon by the accused.

"The incident occurred on May 9, 2008 when Singh and Ramgopal had gone to the village to measure the encroached land and were about to approach local revenue official when they were attacked by the accused with swords and sticks," said public prosecutor Hemant Mungi.
Singh died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on May 11.
A total of 29 witnesses deposed before the court in the case.
The convicts are identified as Deevan Singh (56), Bhagat Singh (51), Rakesh alias Arjun Singh (29), Mohan Singh (56) and Prahlad Singh (46).
