Five members of a gang, wanted in connection with several cases of robbery and car-jacking, were arrested from south-west Delhi, police said today.

The arrested accused -- Yogesh Sharma, Devender, Amit Sehrawat, Giriraj Singh and Praveen -- were members of the Nandu gang, headed by Kapil Sherawat, Devender Arya, DCP (southwest), said.

The accused, who were travelling in a stolen car, were stopped by the police at Kishangarh village near Vasant Kunj around 8.30 pm yesterday. They tried to escape by hitting a barricade and pointing weapons at the police personnel, the officer said.

However, the police personnel managed to overpower them, he said, adding that a semi-automatic pistol, two country-made pistols, 10 live cartridges and the stolen car were seized from them.

The keys of another car stolen from Vasant Kunj on July 19 and a couple of two-wheelers were also recovered from them, the officer said, adding that the accused had abandoned the car in Trilokpuri.

The gang was involved in several cases of robbery and car-jacking. The members of the gang were also involved in an attempt to kill one Shiva Suri last month and were planning another attack on him, the DCP said.
