Five persons including four school students were killed when the auto-rickshaw in which they were travelling was hit by a dumper in Odisha's Sundargarh district today.

The children, aged between five and six years, were returning home from school in the three-wheeler when the mishap took place near Swayamba under Kbalang police station limit, police said.

While three children died on the spot, another student and the auto-rickshaw driver succumbed to injuries at hospital here, they said.

Expressing grief over the mishap, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased children, an official in the Chief Minister's office said.
